What is Child Find?

Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), schools are responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating students who may have disabilities and may need special education services.

A student may need support if they struggle with:

  • Reading, writing, or math skills

  • Speech or language development

  • Attention or behavior

  • Social or emotional development

  • Physical or medical needs affecting learning

  • Developmental delays

Parents have the right to:

  • Request a special education evaluation

  • Participate in educational decisions

  • Receive services if a disability is identified and it affects the student’s ability to learn
